Michigan Moves Up in Latest Coaches Poll After Blowing Out UTEP

Michigan advanced one spot to No. 18 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll after a lopsided 52-17 triumph over UTEP at Michigan Stadium. The Wolverines' record now stands at 3-0, and they earned 545 points in the new Coaches Poll. This victory marks Michigan's largest of the season. Although the Wolverines trailed 14-7 during the second quarter, they ultimately pulled away, leading 17-14 at halftime before recording a dominant 28-point third quarter and a 45-3 run to finish.

Underlying the success was Bryce Underwood's standout performance, completing 19 of 25 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns. Backup quarterback Tommy Carr also made a positive debut, completing two passes, rushing for 18 yards and throwing a touchdown during his first collegiate game. The final score reflects progress, but the climb to No. 18 does not constitute a complete reassessment.

Despite starting the season at No. 16, Michigan has steadily improved and now sits behind only Texas, Georgia, and Notre Dame. The team's defense continues to be a strong component, and the development of Underwood is a key factor in determining whether Michigan can compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
