Mandhana becomes highest run-scorer in Women’s T20Is during Asian Games semifinal

Smriti Mandhana of India claimed the title of highest run-scorer in Women's T20Is during the Asian Games 2026 semifinal clash against Bangladesh on Sunday. As the opening batter for India after the toss at Korogi Sports Park, Mandhana crossed the 8-run mark in the third over. She did not bat in India's quarter-final win over Japan on Friday.

This marked her 178th T20I appearance, surpassing New Zealand's Suzie Bates' previous record of 4758 runs in just 178 innings. At just 30, Mandhana reached the milestone in just 171 innings, outpacing Bates' tally. She is also India's leading six-hitter in T20Is, two runs away from the 100-sixes milestone. Earlier this month, Mandhana topped the international run-scoring charts in women's cricket, surpassing Mithali Raj.

Mandhana's historic innings of 124 off 64 balls, scored in a mesmerizing fashion, powered India to 193/5. Her 18th century in women's international cricket also made her the most prolific century-maker in the format.
