Manchester United Muslim supporters group calls for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to quit

The Manchester United Muslim Supporters’ Club (MUMSC) has demanded that co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe resign from his position after he made remarks deeming Britain "on the slide" following its former status as "the greatest empire in the world." The group labeled Ratcliffe's comments as "completely unacceptable" and expressed loss of confidence in United's ownership structure. Additionally, MUMSC called for the departure of the Glazer family.

Earlier clashes arose from Ratcliffe's public comments about immigration, including a previous statement suggesting Britain was being "colonised by immigrants." Seven months prior, MUMSC had challenged those remarks and hoped a lesson would be learned. However, the latest interview demonstrates the group's growing concerns.

The ownership of Manchester United has faced opposition from supporters over various policies, including a ticket-touting crackdown during the summer that resulted in 685 season tickets being revoked. These actions led to protests from fan groups, such as The 1958.

Ratcliffe's comments have further deepened existing supporter tensions. The billionaire has criticized immigration, benefit recipients, and taxation in his BBC interview, stating that Britain has "a bit of a green eye towards wealth." He also expressed dissatisfaction with the government's approach to North Sea oil and gas, warning of potential energy shortages during colder periods.

MUMSC's statement serves as a "statement of no confidence" against both Ratcliffe and the Glazer family. The group emphasized the importance of different communities within United's identity, stating that "Manchester United would not be Manchester United without them." MUMSC concluded that enough is enough and that it is time for change, urging the Glazers and Ratcliffe to leave the club.
