Malachi Singleton throws for 331 yards and Appalachian State defeats Charlotte 26-21

Boone, N.C. (AP) — Mountaineers' quarterback Malachi Singleton had an impressive performance, throwing for 331 yards and leading Appalachian State to a 26-21 victory over Charlotte on Saturday night. The game faced a delay due to lightning and heavy rain, starting more than two hours late. Appalachian State (3-0) took control in the fourth quarter, building a 19-point lead and outlasting Charlotte.

Singleton threw for 7 touchdowns and an interception in the game. He connected with Chris Lofton on a 3-yard touchdown pass to set the stage for a 19-7 lead. Singleton continued his stellar play with a 74-yard drive leading to another touchdown, extending the Mountaineers' lead to 26-7. Charlotte mounted a comeback with two key plays: a touchdown run by Khamani Alexander and a 36-yard return by Collin Gill. This brought the score to 26-21 with 2:05 left in the game.

App State capitalized on an onside kick recovery and ran out the clock, sealing the win. Singleton completed 28 of 42 passes, contributing to his impressive performance with two touchdowns and an interception. Charlotte's Cole Gonzales threw for 211 yards but was intercepted twice. The Mountaineers will face off against N.C. State next Saturday.
