Makinde, Alli clash over diesel-powered streetlights

The campaign organization of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State has questioned the engineering credentials of Governor Seyi Makinde over the use of diesel-powered generators for streetlights. The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation criticized the project as an "embarrassing culture of waste, poor planning, and misplaced priorities."

The organization's media spokesperson, Bisi Oladele, argued that the governor's reliance on generators was outdated, expensive, and harmful to the environment.

In response, Makinde's special adviser on media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, defended the use of generators, explaining that the administration was forced to use them due to unreliable electricity supply from the national grid. Olanrewaju stated that the state government was actively seeking alternative energy sources, including a 5MW solar plant that is currently being upgraded to 12MW. He also urged Alli to direct his concerns about electricity supply to the Federal Government, rather than criticizing the state's efforts.
