Lambasted: Cowboys survive injuries, offense soars to 37-20 win over Commanders

The Dallas Cowboys entered their Week 2 matchup against the Washington Commanders with much at stake. A loss would have left them in disheartening positions - 0-2 overall, 0-2 in the NFC East, and with a home loss at AT&T Stadium. Fortunately, the team's fortunes took a positive turn as they managed to overcome a significant number of injuries during the game.

Washington's quarterback, Jayden Daniels, appeared to suffer a major injury during the first half, resulting in his loss for the remainder of the game. Dallas capitalized on this setback, capitalizing on the team's booming offense to post a 37-20 victory over the Commanders, improving their record to 1-1 on the season.

Quarterback Dak Prescott played a pivotal role in the Cowboys' success, throwing four touchdowns, two each to Jake Ferguson and CeeDee Lamb, and passing for a career-high 249 yards. This surpassed Tony Romo's franchise record of 248 career passing yards. Presiding over the offensive success was the team's star wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb, who had a standout performance by catching eight of nine targets for 153 receiving yards and two scores.

However, Dallas' offense couldn't compensate for their struggling running game, as the running backs only managed 39 yards on 16 carries. Despite this, Prescott finished with 279 passing yards and a passer rating of 143.9. The defense, while still marred by issues, did manage to improve from their Week 1 loss to the New York Giants. Although the tackling was criticized, and there were still some coverage breakdowns, the defense managed to hold up under pressure.

Injuries were a persistent issue for both teams during the game. For the Cowboys, defensive ends PJ Locke and Cobie Durant, as well as tight end Jake Ferguson, were forced to sit out due to injuries. Wide receiver Dee Winters also left the game early but returned later in the contest. Meanwhile, for the Commanders, quarterback Jayden Daniels, defensive tackles Javon Kinlaw and Sam Cosmi appeared to suffer significant injuries, potentially impacting their performance in the game.
