Kwankwaso: I can forgive Gov. Yusuf, I still like him

Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has expressed his willingness to reconcile with Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State. Yusuf, a loyal follower of Kwankwaso's movement, clinched the gubernatorial seat in 2023 as a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). However, the relationship between the two men has become strained following Yusuf's switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The two have been colleagues for over four decades, with Yusuf serving as Kwankwaso's aide. In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso stated that he is willing to forgive and reconcile with Yusuf if he so desires. The senator maintained that he never disowned Yusuf or requested him to abandon his political party. Kwankwaso also emphasized that he is not vengeful and is capable of forgiving those who have wronged him.

He cited the example of his forgiveness towards former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, despite several grievances. Kwankwaso further noted that he is not a vengeful person and is always ready to forgive those who have made mistakes. He stated that he is still active in politics and not an armchair politician. Kwankwaso advised patience, compassion and understanding, acknowledging that not everyone may align with one's views and thought process.

He reiterated that one should not expect everyone to think and act like them due to differences in reasoning, age, background, and educational qualifications. Kwankwaso concluded that forgiveness is not about receiving any form of recompense or endorsement from anyone.
