New York: If the Strait of Hormuz is reopened, Qatar's liquefied natural gas (LNG) capabilities could resume normal operations within a fortnight, stated Energy Minister and QatarEnergy CEO Eng. Saad Sherida Al Kaabi on Sunday. Responding to a query during the Qatar Economic Forum in New York, Al Kaabi explained that "with the subtraction of the 17%, we can get back to normal operations within a couple of weeks."

QatarEnergy had previously estimated that the $20 billion annual revenue loss and up to five-year repair time for the damage to its Ras Laffan Industrial City caused by missile strikes on March 18-19, 2026 would impact supply to European and Asian markets. The attacks crippled two LNG-producing Trains 4 and 6, amounting to 12.8 million tons per annum (MTPA) of production, or roughly 17% of Qatar's exports.

Train 4 is a joint venture between QatarEnergy (66%) and ExxonMobil (34%), while Train 6's partnership includes QatarEnergy (70%) and ExxonMobil (30%).
