India’s semiconductor push will create countless jobs: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday that India is establishing semiconductor clusters nationwide, heralding a new phase of large-scale employment and economic transformation. The prime focus is on building the entire electronics value chain, from products and components to semiconductors, to steer India towards Viksit Bharat, the country's vision of comprehensive socio-economic development.

Modi unveiled the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Gujarat's Sanand, emphasizing that the youth of India would lead the artificial intelligence, robotics, and next-generation technology revolution through Made-in-India chips. The inauguration marked the beginning of commercial production, with the facility capable of manufacturing 20 crore chips annually, scaling up to 500 crore chips per year.

Modi highlighted the government's vision of "Design in India" and "Make in India," describing the project as a model of technology, trust, and collaboration that will bolster India's semiconductor sector. The facility, a collaborative effort with companies from Thailand and Japan, will supply chips to both domestic and international markets.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence in the company's ability to achieve its production targets, noting that many women employees from rural areas, who had never visited Delhi or Mumbai before, were now part of India's chip manufacturing sector after completing ITI training. Modi underlined the country's manufacturing growth, transformation from an importer of mobile phones to a leading global manufacturer and exporter, and urged the industry to set ambitious goals to propel India towards Viksit Bharat-2047.
