HSIS Heart Centre handles 69 cardiac intervention cases in a single day

On Friday, the Sultan Idris Shah Hospital (HSIS) Heart Centre in Serdang handled an impressive 69 cardiac intervention cases, marking a significant achievement for the facility. The Health Ministry reported that HSIS managed 45% of all cardiac intervention cases across its 10 heart centres. The hospital's cardiac catheterisation laboratories (Cath Labs) worked non-stop, with four labs continuing operations past 6pm to tackle the backlog.

This high-intensity day saw 80 healthcare professionals, including 14 cardiologists and 40 nurses, working together to meet patient demands. Of the 69 cases, 40 were elective while 29 were emergencies, including four Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (Primary PCI) procedures to save heart attack patients. The centre also showcased its expertise in complex coronary cases, performing 13 procedures using intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) technology for precise and safe treatment.

Notably, the hospital carried out four RotaPro Rotational Atherectomy cases and three Intravascular Lithotripsy cases, both requiring specialized techniques for patients with difficult-to-treat cardiac blood vessels. The Health Ministry acknowledged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for recognizing HSIS Heart Centre as a Cardiac Centre of Excellence (COE), highlighting the team's dedication, efficiency, and collaboration in delivering fast, safe, and effective cardiac care.
