GMet warns of thunderstorms, heavy rain in north-eastern parts of Ghana

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a warning of moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds impacting northern Ghana. The weather system is expected to first affect the Upper East, North East and Northern regions, with rainfall beginning within the next hour. The storm is anticipated to move westwards later in the day, bringing rain to the Upper West and Savannah regions.

Residents are advised to consider the forecast when planning activities and allow extra travel time. They are also urged to avoid travel during peak rainfall periods and exercise caution on flooded roads or low-lying bridges. Motorists should reduce speed, use headlights, and steer clear of areas likely to flood. Farmers, market traders and outdoor workers are advised to secure loose materials and equipment before the storm arrives.

Communities prone to flooding should remain vigilant, especially those near Dambai and along the Oti River. The public is encouraged to monitor official weather updates and take necessary precautions if conditions worsen.
