Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s sister arrested before planned march

According to Lahore police, Aleema Khan, the sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was arrested from her home in eastern Lahore on Sunday. The arrest occurred exactly a week prior to a planned protest march by Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party on September 27, which aimed to demand his release. A senior police official in Lahore confirmed the arrest but did not provide further details.

The deputy commissioner of Lahore issued a 30-day detention order for Aleema Khan under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law, which allows authorities to detain individuals deemed necessary for public order or safety. Aleema Khan's lawyer, Rana Mudassar Umer, stated in a post on X that she was illegally arrested and taken to an unknown location.

The government has not yet commented on the arrest. On Saturday, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the government would take all necessary measures to prevent the PTI protest march. The PTI condemned the arrest, labeling it illegal and demanding her immediate release.
