Former England international gets run over by pitch roller in bizarre Thai league incident

PATTANI, Thailand (AP) — Former England international Andros Townsend suffered no serious injury after being struck by a pitch roller during a bizarre incident at a Thai league match. The 35-year-old, who currently plays for PT Prachuap in Thai League 1, made headlines on Saturday night when a video surfaced on social media showing him being taken out by the vehicle while warming up for the game against Pattani.

Townsend, previously a winger for Tottenham and Crystal Palace, responded humorously to the incident, reposting the video on Instagram with the caption "Make it look like an accident" and a laughing emoji. He also joked about it on his stories. Screams were audible in the video, and other players were seen covering their faces in shock.

The incident occurred as Townsend attempted an aerial backheel and ended up in the path of the vehicle, which continued moving over his legs and hip. Despite the scare, Townsend managed to come on as a stoppage-time substitute in his team's 3-0 victory. Townsend, who made 13 appearances for England, joined Prachuap in August after leaving another Thai club, Kanchanaburi Power, which had just been relegated.
