FAMU football QB Dustin Fletcher dealing with a 'thumb issue'

Two weeks apart, Florida A&M football’s starting quarterback Isaiah Knowles and his replacement Dustin Fletcher have both suffered thumb injuries. Fletcher assumed Knowles’ role after the thumb-scarred senior’s season-ending injury against South Carolina State on September 6. Fletcher’s career took a turn for the worse on Saturday when he left the game against Tennessee State in the second quarter, never to return.

He was seen on the sideline with head trainer Kenny Lassiter, and freshman quarterback Armond Parker took over. Following the game, head coach Quinn Fordham Gray provided a status update on Fletcher’s thumb issue, noting the possibility of Fletcher not being able to perform at his best if he returned. Instead, Parker was selected to continue the Rattlers’ offense.

During his brief stint in the game, Fletcher completed 6 of 11 passes for 48 yards and a touchdown, along with 28 rushing yards. Parker, on the other hand, went 14-for-25 for 267 yards, scored two touchdowns, and caused a game-sealing interception. FAMU awaits their next opponent, Alabama A&M, on September 26 as they kick off their Southwestern Athletic Conference season.
