Ernie Accorsi — former Giants GM who set up team to win two Super Bowls — dead at 84

Ernie Accorsi, a key figure in the New York Giants' success, died at the age of 84. The team's president, John Mara, described Accorsi as a "trusted advisor and dear friend." Accorsi's career in football began in 1970 and his most significant contributions were made as a member of the Giants. He joined the team as an assistant to the general manager and was later promoted to the GM role in 1998.

Accorsi helped the Giants reach the Super Bowl in 2000, where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens. It was during this period that he acquired key players such as Eli Manning, Jeremy Shockey, Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck, Brandon Jacobs and Plaxico Burress, which contributed to the team's success in the Super Bowls of 2007 and 2011. Accorsi was inducted into the Giants' Ring of Honor in 2016.

His most notable move was trading for Eli Manning in 2004, which was hailed as one of the greatest decisions in Giants history. Manning's presence in the team led to two Super Bowl wins. Accorsi began his NFL journey in 1970 and had previously served as the general manager of the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Colts.
