Ed Sheeran Addresses Macklemore Fallout at First Concert Since Rapper’s Loop Tour Removal: ‘I’ve Had to Make Difficult Decisions’

Ed Sheeran took the stage at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday night, marking his first performance since rapper Macklemore was removed from his Loop Tour due to pro-Palestinian comments made during shows in New Jersey on September 4 and 5. All supporting acts had withdrawn in solidarity with Macklemore. Sheeran addressed the controversy, revealing that he had never wanted to be an activist musician but felt compelled to speak out.

He expressed regret for making difficult decisions and acknowledged mistakes, apologizing sincerely. Sheeran emphasized that his concerts have always been a safe space for everyone and that honoring his commitment to fans was essential. Reflecting on the situation, he stated that while he had not been a political commentator in the past, he could not remain silent on the tragic events in Israel and Gaza.

He described the devastation in Gaza as catastrophic, unjustifiable, and disproportionate, and highlighted systemic injustice in the West Bank. Macklemore's exit from the tour prompted the withdrawal of Sheeran's remaining supporting acts. Macklemore pledged to donate his $1 million earnings from the tour to Palestinian humanitarian aid.

In response, Sheeran contacted New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, asking him to match the donation with $2 million. No new opening acts have been added to the Loop Tour.
