Development projects can deliver results to the people more quickly when the political authority and the public service work together towards a common goal – PM

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya highlighted the effectiveness of development projects in delivering results to the public when political authority and public service collaborate towards a shared, people-centric goal. She made these comments during a review meeting of the Rathmalana Kandawala Road rehabilitation and drainage system improvement project, held at the Western Province Council Auditorium on Friday, September 18.

The project, initiated on September 10, 2026, aims to be finished by June 30, 2027. It involves constructing a bridge at Rs. 64 million, rehabilitating the drainage system at Rs. 930 million, and repairing the road at Rs. 115 million. The project, led by the Provincial Road Development Authority (PRDA), also involves the Western Province Council, Irrigation Department, and Ratmalana Divisional Secretariat, as per previous committee decisions.

The Prime Minister praised the swift and commendable progress, particularly the teamwork among government officials. She stressed the need for proactive measures to mitigate flooding and its effects in Colombo and other districts, anticipating the rainy weather that might impact the Western Province later in the year. The meeting was attended by key figures including Lakshman Nipuna Arachchi, Samanmalee Gunasinghe, Dewananda Suraweera, Parakum Shantha, and K.G. Pradeep Pushpakumara, among others from various government bodies.
