Delhi SIR: L K Advani, EAM S Jaishankar, Election Commissioner SS Sandhu Get Notices For 'Discrepancies' In Voter Details

New Delhi: Prominent figures LK Advani, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, former vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar and Election Commissioner SS Sandhu are among several high-profile voters who have received notices for discrepancies in their voter details submitted during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The notices were issued for 33.13 lakh voters, after the publication of draft electoral rolls of over 97 lakh voters under the SIR.

Most of these notices were due to voter details not matching with the information from the last SIR in 2002. Former Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal, who received notices along with his wife, expressed frustration towards the Election Commission (EC) and criticized the SIR as a "special intensive deletion" of votes. The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer's office clarified that the notices were issued for data correction purposes and not for automatic deletion of names from the electoral rolls.

Many prominent individuals, including government officials, bureaucrats, and politicians, have been issued notices for discrepancies in their voter details, but the Delhi CEO assures that there is no existential crisis regarding the electoral rolls.
