Customs Hands Over Renovated Health Facility to Rivers Community

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recently completed a renovation of a primary healthcare facility and transferred it to the Ebubu community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State. The Port Harcourt Area II Command, under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi, spearheaded the project as part of the Customs Care Initiative.

The facility was in a state of disrepair before the renovation and was recently equipped to cater to the community's healthcare needs. Adeniyi emphasized that the Customs Care Initiative not only helps the service fulfill its mandate of collecting revenue, facilitating trade, and protecting borders but also enables the service to contribute positively to the communities it operates in.

The initiative has supported various projects, including healthcare, education, food security, environmental sustainability, social investment, and economic empowerment. Adeniyi urged the Ebubu community to maintain the facility and called on the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board to manage it effectively. He also cautioned residents against vandalism or theft of the facility's components.

The Comptroller of the Port Harcourt Area II Command, Aliyu Alkali, highlighted that the project aimed to restore a critical community health asset and restore access to antenatal and maternal health care for residents. Dr Tonye Lawson-Jack, Director of Medical Services, assured that the facility would be put to effective use by the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board.
