Fed up with mosquitoes ruining your terrace evenings? A new gadget called Photon Matrix claims to offer a futuristic solution. This device uses LiDAR, radar, AI vision and a laser to detect and eliminate flying mosquitoes mid-air. Rather than dealing with repellents or manually swatting them away, Photon Matrix is designed to sit quietly on your terrace and automatically target mosquitoes.

The system can detect insects between 2mm and 20mm in size, up to 1 metre per second, and has a detection range of up to six metres. Once a mosquito is identified, the device tracks it and fires a short laser pulse to disable its wings. A smartphone app allows owners to monitor mosquito activity and track the number of insects eliminated.

The device comes in both outdoor and indoor versions, with the outdoor version featuring a visible blue laser flash and the indoor version using an invisible infrared laser. Both versions cost between $988 and $1,088, with a 15% discount currently applied. Orders are being taken on a pre-order basis, with shipping expected within 120 days.

The outdoor version is designed for use on patios, gardens and outdoor dining areas, while the indoor version is intended for use in bedrooms and living rooms. Despite being a new technology, the price tag of around €1,000 may be seen as a significant investment. However, for those tired of being bitten by mosquitoes, the prospect of a laser-powered solution may be worth considering.
