Cop’s knock wakes startled Audi driver before wrong-way scare in Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru, September 20 — A video shared on social media revealing a car travelling against traffic on Jalan Jim Quee has been identified as belonging to an Audi owner who is believed to have dozed off after concluding his workday. The incident occurred around 6.50am on September 18 and involves a Malaysian man who is employed as a restaurant waiter at R&F Mall in the South Johor Bahru district, according to Superintendent Ng Swie Chait of the local police force.

Superintendent Ng stated that the man had just finished his shift when he drove home to Taman Mount Austin in the Audi. As he approached the Tanjung Puteri traffic-light intersection, he fell asleep behind the wheel. A nearby police officer noticed that the car was stationary and approaching rapidly, so he knocked on the window to attract the driver's attention.

The blow roused the driver, who slowly began moving the vehicle forward into the path of oncoming traffic. However, due to potential disorientation, the Audi driver was driving against the direction of traffic towards Jalan Jim Quee. Police officers on the scene then administered a breath test to the driver using an SD2+ breathalyser, which yielded a negative result.

The police are currently investigating the matter under Section 79(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for the driver's violation of traffic signals.
