'Colin will be fine': Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian downplays Colin Simmons injury

Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian is confident that edge rusher Colin Simmons will recover from his apparent right foot or ankle injury sustained during Saturday's 30-6 win over UTSA. The junior from Duncanville was forced to leave the game early with a walking boot on his injured foot, but Sarkisian believes he will be ready for the team's upcoming SEC opener against No. 15 Tennessee.

In the first quarter, Simmons recorded his second sack of the season, dragging down UTSA quarterback Owen McCown. However, he didn't record another tackle for the rest of the game. As a substitute, freshman Richard Wesley stepped in and finished the game with three solo stops, including one for a loss. If Simmons misses the Tennessee game, Wesley could make his first career start.

Sarkisian praised Wesley's pass rush ability and noted that Simmons possesses both run and pass rush skills. Texas now travels to face the 3-0 Volunteers, also playing their final nonconference game of the season, at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
