CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Lays Foundation Stone For Adani Power’s 3,200 MW Assam Project

Assam's Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, recently laid the foundation stone for a massive ₹48,000-crore thermal power project by Adani Power Limited (APL) in Dhubri district. With a capacity of 3,200 MW, the ultra-supercritical thermal power plant (USTPP) will boost the state's power generation and create numerous job opportunities.

The project, part of a larger ₹63,000-crore investment in Assam, will provide over 20,000 jobs during construction and around 5,000 once operational. APL's Director, Jeet Adani, expressed pride in the company's investment in the state, highlighting its potential to power homes, businesses, and industries.

The plant will utilize advanced ultra-supercritical technology, featuring high-efficiency systems and environmental safeguards. The four 800 MW units will supply reliable and affordable electricity to Assam, bolstering the state's energy infrastructure.

Assam is rapidly becoming a regional energy hub, with several mega projects in the pipeline. The Chief Minister emphasized the economic benefits, including increased SGST revenues and opportunities for local industries and contractors. The project aligns with Assam's vision of leveraging its unique geography to support the country's future growth.

The ₹63,000-crore power investment in Assam includes additional projects like Pumped Storage Plants (PSPs) and smart metering initiatives. Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) is working on modernizing the state's power distribution infrastructure, while the Adani Foundation is supporting flood-afflicted families and various development initiatives across the state.
