‘Cleared SIR, voted’: Woman moves High Court after husband detained over illegal Bangladesh immigrant suspicion

Dejina Bibi, a 34-year-old woman from Murshidabad, has taken her husband's detention into the High Court after he was apprehended by police on suspicion of being an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant. Sahidul Sk, a farmer with three children, was taken from their village in Raninagar at night on August 8. Despite submitting all necessary documents and voting in the Assembly elections, police allege Sahidul's illegal entry.

Dejina Bibi, a housewife, argues that her husband's citizenship is being unjustly questioned. She maintains that he possesses valid documents such as a voter ID, Aadhaar card, Pan card, and a property registration in his name. The court has ordered the state to provide Sahidul's detention memo and for the police to explain their actions within a fortnight. The matter is set to be heard again on October 8.
