Cachalia: We can’t confirm conclusively that we are dealing with a serial killer in Kempton Park

Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has stated that preliminary investigations have not provided conclusive evidence of a serial killer operating in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. Nine women have been found dead in recent months, and police are now investigating whether these murders are connected. The area has the highest number of kidnappings in Gauteng province.

Women's, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga revealed that eight bodies have been identified, with one remaining unidentified. Seven families have been notified of their loved ones' deaths, and Chikunga urged people to remain vigilant and report any missing female relatives promptly.

Cachalia confirmed that three individuals have been questioned in connection with the case, but so far, there is no definitive evidence linking the murders to a single serial killer. He noted that the cases might not be related, as there appear to be different methods and motives involved. However, he emphasized that nothing has been ruled out while the investigations continue.

He also highlighted the use of both human and financial resources to address the crisis, including the involvement of Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who is leading a national task team against organized and violent crimes.
