Arab Postal Regulation Forum 2026 kicks off in Doha

The Arab Postal Regulation Forum 2026 commenced on Sunday in Doha, with the objective of advancing postal sector reform in the Arab region. This inaugural forum, organized by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) in partnership with the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Regional Office for the Arab Region, serves as a crucial platform for exchanging regulatory insights and practices.

The gathering aims to bolster regional cooperation and promote the development of postal services in alignment with international benchmarks and UPU standards, as highlighted by CRA President Eng. Ahmad bin Abdulla al-Muslemani. Qatar's decision to host this event underscores its dedication to regional collaboration and the enhancement of regulatory frameworks within the postal sector, particularly in the face of rapid technological advancements and evolving market demands.

The forum's two-day agenda will encompass critical discussions on regulatory challenges such as licensing, market access, competition in digital postal services, consumer rights, service quality, complaint resolution, data protection, transparency, and sustainable financing. Additionally, the forum will delve into the future of universal postal service, addressing aspects like accessibility, affordability, digital inclusion, and sustainable financing models.

The outcomes of these deliberations are expected to culminate in the formulation of the 'Doha Recommendations,' a shared Arab reference intended to guide postal regulation development, enhance sector readiness for technological and economic transformations, and reinforce collective commitment to a more efficient, innovative, and sustainable postal sector across the Arab region.

Sheikha Noor bint Hassan al-Thani, manager of the UPU's Regional Office for the Arab Region, emphasizes the forum's role in facilitating dialogue among policymakers and regulators to address shared priorities and challenges facing the postal sector.
