António Guterres calls for global unity ahead of final UNGA as UN chief

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has urged world leaders to enhance international cooperation as they convene in New York for the closing week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). In a message shared on social media, Guterres emphasized the necessity of dialogue and collective action as leaders prepare to assemble at the UN headquarters to address the world's most pressing issues.

This will be Guterres' final UNGA as Secretary-General, and he reiterated his commitment to the pursuit of a better world for all.

Kenyan President William Ruto, among other world leaders, has arrived in New York for the high-level week of the 81st UNGA, scheduled from September 22 to 29. Ruto's visit aims to promote Kenya's economic and diplomatic goals, including attracting investment from Africa and the global community. He highlighted Kenya's focus on expanding trade and investment while fostering growth in energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, health, agriculture, and technology.

The 81st General Assembly high-level week provides an opportunity for heads of state and government to participate in the Assembly's general debate, which is the UN's primary deliberative, policymaking, and representative forum. Comprising all 193 member states, each possessing a single vote, the General Assembly plays a crucial role in shaping global policies and addressing the challenges faced by humanity.
