Android 17 QPR1 changes some Pixel status bar icons

Android 17 QPR1, the latest stable release of Google's operating system, has introduced some changes to the Pixel status bar icons. One significant change is the transformation of the silent or mute icon, which has moved from a crossed-out speaker to a bell. This alteration could potentially be an unintentional regression, as Google previously switched from the bell to the speaker icon in Android 14.

However, it's important to note that this change was not present during the Android 17 QPR1 Beta cycle and only went live with the stable OTA update this week.

Interestingly, the speaker icon is still available in version 17 QPR2 Beta 5. This inconsistency in the availability of icons across different beta releases adds complexity to determining if the status bar icon changes were intentional. Another icon alteration involves the VPN icon, which has become thicker and filled in during Android 17 QPR1.

This modification was also exclusive to the stable release and not present in the Beta versions. It remains to be seen if Google will revert this change in future updates, as any potential correction may only occur in the substantial QPR2 update slated for December.
