Ajit Agarkar not seeking extension as chief selector

Ajit Agarkar, India's chief selector, has announced his decision not to extend his current contract, which is set to expire on October 4. This announcement allows the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to initiate the search for his successor. The significance of Agarkar's future was discussed at the BCCI's 95th Annual General Meeting, where member units gave the office-bearers the authority to make decisions related to the selection committees.

During the AGM, senior BCCI officials confirmed that the office bearers have been granted the power to decide on matters concerning the selection committees, without providing further details about Agarkar's future. The AGM was attended by representatives from various state associations, including Cricket Association of Bengal's Sourav Ganguly and Karnataka State Cricket Association's Venkatesh Prasad.

The BCCI is currently in the process of appointing all five members of the junior selection committee, which has received a large number of applications. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia informed that the board has received numerous applicants and anticipates completing the selection process within the next 10 to 15 days. Saikia emphasized that a competent authority will be in place to select the members of the junior selection committee, following the shortlisting process.

Furthermore, Saikia announced that fielding coach Subhadeep Ghosh has been appointed on a short-term basis, with his future to be determined after an evaluation of his performance. The final decision on Ghosh's engagement with the Indian team will be made based on assessments conducted by the team management.
