ADB Ghana Medicals leads engineering works on $100m Otumfuo Cancer Centre

Ghanaian healthcare firm ADB Ghana Medical Systems Group Limited has taken the lead on the hospital engineering and infrastructure side of the $100 million Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Comprehensive Cancer Centre of Excellence in Kwaso, Ashanti Region. This move signifies a shift from their traditional role in supplying medical equipment to now encompassing hospital engineering, construction, maintenance and project management services.

Founded in 2006 by Adann Benjamin Diaz, ADB Ghana Medical Systems has grown from a medical supplies business to a specialist healthcare solutions provider catering to various institutions within the health sector.

Company spokesperson Mr Diaz expressed the company's ambition to go beyond merely supplying medical equipment. "We aim to build a company that not only supplies but also develops expertise and contributes meaningfully to the infrastructure required for quality healthcare delivery in Ghana and across Africa," he stated.

ADB Ghana Medical Systems has broadened its services to include hospital planning, management and maintenance, as well as turnkey hospital construction. This integrated approach allows the company to address various aspects of healthcare facilities, from the medical equipment clinicians utilize to the infrastructure, utilities and technical systems necessary for hospitals to function smoothly.

This capability has enabled ADB Ghana Medical Systems to participate in projects that require a holistic approach, balancing clinical needs, building infrastructure and specialized hospital systems.

The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Comprehensive Cancer Centre of Excellence, named after the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is being constructed on 52 acres of land in the Ejisu Municipality. This five-year project, funded by Breast Care International, Peace and Love Hospitals, Global Health Catalyst and the University of Pennsylvania, is estimated to cost $100 million. The initial phase is projected to cost around $10 million.
