9 killed in fresh Plateau attacks

Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, at least nine individuals lost their lives in separate attacks in three local government areas of Plateau State - Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Mangu. Tensions are escalating in the affected regions. Security forces have been sent to the communities to restore order. According to reports, a group of gunmen attacked a vehicle carrying five passengers from Gana-Ropp in Barkin LGA to Mangu LGA around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, killing four of them and leaving one survivor.

The driver, who hailed from Gindiri and frequently traveled for supplies, was among the deceased. The victims included miners and the driver. The National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association, Bulus Dabit, condemned the attack and demanded that the perpetrators be apprehended. In another incident, two individuals, including a pastor, were killed on their way to church at Dorowa Babuje.

Additionally, a woman was reported killed at Baten Wereng in Riyom LGA on Saturday night, and another person was killed at Ratyidi in Fan District on the same day. The Berom Youth Moulders spokesman, Rwang Tengwong, strongly condemned these attacks and called for enhanced security measures to prevent further violence. Meanwhile, cattle were found dead around the Dorowa Babuje-Maranba-Kantoma area on Sunday, prompting the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Barkin Ladi to urge security agencies to investigate the incident and restore peace.
