4 Flyovers To Be Demolished For New ₹4,000-Crore Bridge In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Sanjay Shirsat

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced plans to demolish four flyovers on Jalna Road to pave the way for Marathwada's longest continuous flyover. The new bridge, estimated at ₹4,000 crores, aims to alleviate traffic congestion on the busy route connecting Shendra to Bajaj Nagar (Oasis Chowk). Sanjay Shirsat, the Guardian Minister, stated that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared and the tender for the project will be issued within the next three months.

Four flyovers, constructed between 1985 and 2015 at a cost of approximately ₹135 crore, will be demolished within a decade. These bridges, ranging from 500 to 1,000 meters in length and 12 to 15 meters in width, were built to ease congestion on Jalna Road, which sees around 2.5 lakh to 3 lakh vehicles daily. The traffic comprises 60% two-wheelers, 20% cars, 10% auto-rickshaws, and 10% heavy vehicles.

Upon completion, the new continuous flyover will span both sides of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue, which was recently erected after long-standing protests by admirers. The statue's presence caused the demolition of an older flyover constructed in 2012. The construction of the new bridge, lasting three to five years, may put pressure on the city's narrow internal roads during the interim period.
