3 workers fixing CCTV cameras for Delhi Police killed as dumper rams crane

Three workers lost their lives and three others sustained injuries after a medium-sized dumper allegedly crashed into a stationary crane and an autorickshaw at a roadwork site near New Delhi’s Sarita Vihar police station. The victims, Umesh, 23, Praveen, 35, and Suraj, 34, were installing CCTV cameras as part of the Delhi Police’s Safe City project when the tragic accident occurred around 3:20 am on Sunday.

The dumper, registered as HR37AJ7110, was en route from Noida when the collision took place. The driver of the dumper fled the scene, prompting the police to launch an investigation to identify and apprehend him. The injured workers, Akash, 20, Anup, 26, and Khem Singh, 40, were transported to a nearby hospital and later transferred to AIIMS Trauma Centre.

Another worker, Sudhir, a Sangam Vihar resident, remained unharmed. The Safe City project aims to cover Delhi with 10,000 AI-enabled cameras, a project that began in 2018 and has faced delays. A case has been filed at the Sarita Vihar police station, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence to reconstruct the events surrounding the accident.
