Tristan Peters left the game in the fifth inning due to an injury after crashing into the wall on Kevin McGonigle's bases-loaded triple that narrowed the gap to 8-5. With the loss, Chicago trails first-place Cleveland by one game with eight games remaining, but they hold the head-to-head tiebreaker after winning their season series against Cleveland.
