‘Use your time wisely’ — Republic Bank MD advises youth

Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC Managing Director, Dr Benjamin Dzoboku, has emphasized that Ghana's development challenge does not stem from a lack of resources, but rather from a lack of discipline in society. In an interview with Joy FM's Lexis Bill, Dr Dzoboku argued that if individuals, institutions, and society at large adopted discipline, Ghana could transform overnight.

His comments highlight the importance of discipline, order, and responsibility in national development, particularly in the financial sector where accountability and responsible conduct are crucial for maintaining customer confidence.

Growing up in a farming family and spending part of his early life herding cattle, Dr Dzoboku has observed the importance of discipline in both animal behavior and human conduct. He explained how cattle could be left in the bush and remain within a specific area, feeding and resting without wandering away. This, he noted, contrasts sharply with the way humans often behave, suggesting that discipline is key to understanding patterns, establishing order, and ensuring the effective functioning of institutions and societies.

In the banking sector, Dr Dzoboku applies this principle of discipline to his leadership at Republic Bank. He described himself as calm but firm on discipline, emphasizing that it is a leadership principle that provides the structure needed for institutions to function effectively. For Dr Dzoboku, discipline goes beyond simply enforcing rules; it is a guiding principle that helps institutions and societies achieve meaningful development, even when abundant resources are available.
