California Governor Gavin Newsom announced plans for a panel to develop safety regulations for state AI companies, including the development of a potential "kill switch" for AI programs that may become misaligned.

Despite initial reassurances from Trump that his administration had done enough to prevent AI-related risks, he later argued that calls for AI development slowdown were part of a "SICK conspiracy" to benefit China.
