Trump Signs Sweeping Sanctions Law Targeting Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, broadening sanctions, tariffs, and prohibitions against Russia, UATV English reports. Known as the Graham sanctions bill, the legislation targets Russian officials, financial institutions, and entities linked to the Russian government.

The administration supports the legislation, aiming to increase pressure on Russia for a negotiated end to the war. It also authorizes extra tariffs on nations continuing significant trade with Russia and measures against those involved in transactions with Russian entities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Trump, U.S. senators, and House members for their efforts in passing the law.

Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of swift and comprehensive implementation to maintain pressure on Russia and achieve peace. The White House confirmed Trump's signature on H.R. 5334 on September 18. The bill also extends current sanctions on Iran. The U.S. State Department has granted approval for a $2.68 billion sale of air defense equipment to Ukraine.
