Thumbprints give her away: Woman gets four months’ jail for presenting fake MyKad at Sabah NRD

KOTA KINABALU, September 19 — A 55-year-old woman named Jamilah Akrim found herself in jail for presenting a counterfeit identity card at the Sabah National Registration Department (NRD). The woman was sentenced to a four-month prison term after admitting guilt during a court appearance on September 10. The court also directed her to cooperate with the Immigration Department following her release.

Upon attempting to obtain a replacement card, NRD officials discovered that Jamilah's fabricated ID did not exist within their records, and her fingerprints did not correspond to any entries in the system. She faced charges under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007), which imposes potential penalties of up to three years in jail, a fine of up to RM20,000, or both upon conviction.
