Thomas Hitzlsperger talks Bayern Munich’s dominance

Thomas Hitzlsperger, a former professional footballer, recently spoke about the challenges of breaking Bayern Munich's dominance in the Bundesliga. Born in Munich, Hitzlsperger started his career journey in Germany before moving abroad. After a successful stint at Bayern Munich, he played for various clubs across Europe and earned 52 caps for Germany, winning multiple awards in the 2005 Confederations Cup, 2006 World Cup, and 2008 European Championship.

In 2014, Hitzlsperger became the first high-profile footballer to come out as gay. Since retiring in 2013, he has become an LGBT+ activist, journalist, pundit, and commentator for several leading outlets. He also serves as a board member for Hellas Verona, a co-owner of VVV-Venlo and Aalborg.

During his interview, Hitzlsperger was asked about the possibility of breaking Bayern Munich's supremacy in the Bundesliga. He noted that it is a difficult task, given the team's roster of talented players who can rotate and adjust their tactics. He specifically mentioned Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen as an exception who successfully managed to challenge Bayern.

Regarding his legacy with the German national team, Hitzlsperger expressed contentment with his career, stating that he had a good time and achieved his goals. He highlighted the transformation under Jürgen Klinsmann in preparation for the 2006 World Cup and the subsequent success of the German team over the years. While he would have loved to be part of the 2014 team that won the World Cup, he acknowledged that he was no longer able to adapt to the new generation of players.
