Thohir opens House of Indonesia for 2026 Asian Games contingent

KUALA LUMPUR: Wushu athletes Danish Aizad Firdaus Chua and Mandy Cebelle Chen could earn medals for Malaysia during the opening day of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. However, both competitors face formidable regional competition in their respective taolu events. Danish, who competes in the men's changquan, has been identified as one of Malaysia's medal prospects following his performance at last year's Asian Cup.

He concluded among the top two, making him a strong contender for the team. Wushu Federation of Malaysia (WFM) president Chong Kim Fatt has emphasized Danish's high potential for the men's changquan event. Despite the absence of Chinese competitors, Danish will face stiff competition on Sunday, with Song Chi Kuan from Macau and Ho Yin Ching from Hong Kong among the leading contenders.

Mandy, competing in the women's taijiquan-taijijian, will encounter a similarly demanding challenge, with Tong Xin from China defending her championship in the combined event. Tan Cheong Min from Malaysia remains the team's biggest medal hope, having won the women's nanquan and nandao combined event. The WFM has singled out four events as having medal potential, and Malaysia hopes their athletes can convert their performances into podium finishes in Aichi-Nagoya.
