The Age of Wonders and Terrors

Scott Aaranson, a theoretical computer scientist, maintains a conservative and skeptical stance on artificial intelligence (AI) that has evolved with greater intellectual honesty regarding the current reality of 2026. He urges people to stop focusing on ideological debates about AI leaders and acknowledge the tangible presence of both wonders and terrors. Aaranson expresses his concern for the future, especially for his children, who may struggle to adapt to the challenges posed by AI.

He acknowledges the irrational aspects of AI doom discussions but emphasizes the importance of accepting the evidence that AI is rapidly advancing.
