Thane Ganeshotsav 2026: Commercial Gas Cylinders Made Mandatory For Mahaprasad At Public Events

Thane district administration has taken a significant step towards safety by mandating the exclusive use of commercial gas cylinders for cooking Mahaprasad and community meals during the upcoming Ganeshotsav and public festivals. Assistant District Supply Officer Yogesh Jangle issued directives to all tehsildars in the district, instructing them to enforce compliance among public Ganesh Mandals.

The use of domestic cylinders for large-scale cooking in these events poses a high risk of explosions due to differences in capacity, burner design, and pressure thresholds. Violating this regulation could lead to criminal charges, and insurance claims would be denied in case of accidents involving illegal domestic gas usage. Now, event licences and tent permits issued by local municipal bodies, police authorities, and the supply department will explicitly include the mandatory commercial cylinder clause.

Consumer Vigilance Welfare Foundation's Nitin Solanke welcomed the move, emphasizing that while Ganeshotsav is a joyous occasion, safety must not be compromised. All Ganesh Mandals are urged to strictly adhere to the law and use only commercial cylinders to ensure a safe festival for everyone.
