Texas A&M freshmen running backs expected play vs. Kentucky

As Texas A&M prepares to take on Kentucky in Week 3 of their 2026 season, the latest injury report has set the stage for a potential shift in the starting lineup at running back. Sophomore Jamarion Morrow and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman have been downgraded to doubtful, with only a 25% chance of playing.

While Bethel-Roman's absence may not spell disaster due to the depth at wide receiver, the missing sophomore running back could have significant repercussions. Junior Rueben Owens is likely to keep his starting job, with freshmen KJ Edwards and Carsyn Baker expected to see more playing time. The Aggie defense put on a show last Saturday against Arizona State, with Edge Marco Jones and cornerback Julio Humphrey leading the charge on defense.

However, the offense struggled to gain much ground, only managing 255 yards and 92 rushing yards. Strengthening the run game is crucial, and better blocking is a good starting point. Edwards has shown promise with his burst and improved vision, averaging at least seven yards per carry when he's seen action. With Morrow potentially out, Edwards may see the majority of the carries behind Rueben Owens, which could breathe new life into the run game and open up the passing attack for Marcel Reed.
