Susan Nakhumicha responds to claims of attending a funeral while drunk

Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has addressed allegations that she attended a funeral while intoxicated, sharing a heartfelt message mourning the loss of Edward Munabi Musombi. In a post on her X account on Saturday, September 19, 2026, Nakhumicha paid tribute to Musombi while responding to the accusations. "You may never understand the loss of a dependable loyal security!

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen," she wrote. Nakhumicha also offered a sarcastic retort to her detractors, asking, "Huyu ndio mnataka ashindane na Natembeya?"

The controversy unfolds as Nakhumicha remains a key figure in the political race for the governor's seat in Trans Nzoia County. She has indicated her intention to run against Governor George Natembeya in the 2027 General Election, positioning herself within the Kenya Kwanza camp. This camp has rallied its support behind her candidacy.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, who is also the Ford Kenya leader, endorsed Nakhumicha during a women's empowerment event in Saboti, Trans Nzoia County. Wetang'ula and President William Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet both spoke in favor of her bid. Kibet, during the event, urged residents to support her as the preferred candidate for the governor's seat.

Wetang'ula and Kibet's endorsements come as Nakhumicha contends with other contenders within the Kenya Kwanza camp, including Kimilili MP Kakai Bisau and former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, who have also shown interest in the governor's position. Meanwhile, incumbent Governor Natembeya is looking to retain his office, setting the stage for a closely watched political battle in Trans Nzoia County in the lead-up to the 2027 General Election.
