Shettima hails NAHCON over 2026 Hajj operations

Vice President Kashim Shettima praised the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for successfully managing the 2026 Hajj operations, crediting President Bola Tinubu's leadership and decisive intervention. According to a statement released by Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima expressed his admiration for NAHCON's efforts during a meeting in Abuja where he received a comprehensive report on the operations.

Shettima emphasized that the commission's renewed vigor under its current management would remain essential as global Hajj operations transition from a government-to-government model to a business-to-business approach. He specifically credited Tinubu for his timely support and decisive action during the crucial period of the 2026 Hajj exercise.

The Vice President also lauded the leadership of NAHCON's chairman, Ismail Abba Yusuf, highlighting the board's confidence and professionalism displayed during the last operation. Shettima urged the board to maintain this spirit of high performance. He acknowledged that while the government plays a critical role in ensuring a smooth Hajj operation, NAHCON will continue to be a vital force in promoting successful pilgrimages.

Earlier, Yusuf expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and Shettima for their unwavering support, particularly in stabilizing foreign exchange access, securing travel allowances, and managing aviation fuel costs, which greatly alleviated financial burdens for pilgrims. The chairman noted that the Vice President's direct leadership and guidance facilitated harmonious collaboration among all stakeholders, resulting in a successful and seamless operation.

Other officials present at the report presentation included NAHCON's commissioners for policy, personnel, management and finance, operations, and members representing the six geopolitical zones.
