Ronaldo named in Jesus’ first Portugal squad

Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Portugal's inaugural squad under the guidance of new coach Jorge Jesus, dispelling rumors about the star forward's potential retirement from international football. The 41-year-old Al-Nassr player declined to confirm his future plans but remains part of a 25-man roster set to compete in four Nations League matches between September 24 and October 4.

Jorge Jesus, previously the club coach of his long-time Al-Nassr teammate, has succeeded Roberto Martinez, who resigned following Portugal's World Cup elimination in July. The 72-year-old coach's tenure with Ronaldo began during his club days at Al-Nassr, where they clinched the Saudi Pro League title. The veteran forward, who hinted at retirement earlier this summer, wept upon Portugal's World Cup exit and stated he would meet his family to deliberate on his decision.

Given Ronaldo's age, he would be 42 when the Nations League finals occur and 43 by Euro 2028. The squad also features Manchester United duo Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes, along with Ruben Dias from Manchester City and Pedro Neto of Chelsea. Portugal's opening fixture will be against Wales at home on September 24, followed by an away game in Norway, before a domestic clash with Norway at home on October 1, concluding with a return match against Norway on October 4.
