Police yet to confirm if Ipoh pre-dawn crash involving 15 vehicles linked to illegal racing

BATU GAJAH, Sept 19 — Police have yet to determine if a group of motorcyclists involved in a fatal crash at Jalan Jelapang-Ampang involving 12 motorcycles and three cars early today were connected to illegal racing activities. Perak deputy police chief DCP Mohammad Azlin Sadari stated that police needed to record statements from nine injured riders, aged between 19 and 25, who were still in hospital treatment to ascertain the sequence of events prior to and during the accident.

Mohammad Azlin informed reporters that police were also examining the impact of poor lighting conditions at the location on the severity of the crash. In the incident occurring at 3.35am, two 19-year-old motorcyclists died at the scene, while another 19-year-old rider succumbed to his injuries at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB).

Mohammad Azlin revealed that an earlier car accident had occurred at the location, causing the vehicle involved to obstruct the path of other road users. The group of motorcyclists, who were traveling closely together, subsequently collided with the vehicle, resulting in a chain reaction of collisions. Dashcam footage has assisted police in identifying two men suspected of threatening a driver with a stick along Jalan Ipoh-Gopeng, Simpang Pulai.

Police are awaiting an opportune moment to interview the two local men, who have been reported to the authorities for potential prosecution under Section 506 of the Penal Code for threatening behavior. No violent altercation occurred prior to the crash, and both parties left the scene without further incident. The three areas of Batu Gajah District Police Headquarters - Kampung Ara Payung, Taman Batu Gajah Perdana and Taman Tasek Putra, Tronoh - have been designated as Amanita Adopted Neighbourhoods for 2026.

This initiative seeks to involve women, particularly housewives, as strategic partners in promoting crime awareness and prevention within their communities. Through Amanita, the Perak Domestic Violence Prevention Unit (PDRM) can gain a better understanding of residents' safety concerns, facilitate public reporting of suspicious activities, and foster two-way communication between the police and the community to address local safety issues.
