Pengampunan Najib tak ubah status kes 1MDB, kata SPRM

(Picture Bernama) KAJANG: The status of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case against former Prime Minister Najib Razak remains unchanged, even though he received conditional pardon, according to SPRM Chief Abd Halim Aman.

Halim clarified that each case needs to be handled separately based on the issue and investigation involved. “For our part, pending cases will remain the same. Like the current one, the status quo will remain,” he said at a media briefing here today. Halim said this when asked if the conditional pardon given to Najib would have any impact on the 1MDB case and ongoing appeals.

He added, "We need to understand that each case is different from the other. We cannot manage them as the same case, as each investigation is targeted at a specific issue raised, related circumstances, or allegation." Yesterday, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, approved the conditional pardon for Najib to serve the remaining prison term at home until August 23, 2028, provided he pays a fine of RM50 million.

The Legal Aid Department (BHEUU) explained that the order was decided during the 64th meeting of the Inter-Penalty Commission for Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya, held at Istana Negara.
