OneTag for FASTag users: What’ll happen to wallet?

Starting from today, FASTag users are set to gain the ability to change their issuer bank without needing to discard their existing NETC FASTag or purchase a new physical tag. The initiative called 'OneTag,' a portability solution for NETC FASTags, was unveiled by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.

The core question at hand is what becomes of the existing FASTag wallet after the switch? The answer is that the existing FASTag wallet will be closed by the previous issuer bank, with any remaining funds being refunded after any necessary deductions. The portability process, however, does involve a fresh Know Your Customer (KYC) verification step.

To access OneTag, users can utilize the NHAI’s Rajmargyatra mobile app. The app will walk them through the portability process, starting with eligibility verification. Users will receive a six-digit Mobile Verification Code (MVC) from their current issuer bank after successful authorisation before they can proceed with selecting a new issuer, completing necessary KYC verification, and finalizing wallet onboarding with the new issuer.

One important note is the fact that after the successful portability, the existing FASTag ID linked to the vehicle registration number remains intact. This means the physical FASTag tag can continue to be used with a different issuer bank. Users should also be aware of the six-month cooling period before they can port their FASTag to another issuer bank again.
