Nkrumah’s legacy transcends partisan politics — Matthew Opoku Prempeh

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential candidate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has urged Ghanaians to set aside partisan politics and pay tribute to Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, during the 2026 NkrumahFest in Nkroful, Western Region. Dr. Prempeh highlighted Nkrumah's crucial role in Ghana's independence, nation-building and Pan-Africanism, emphasizing that his legacy should transcend political differences.

At the commemoration event, he expressed his deep respect and patriotic pride in joining the Nzema people, the Western Region, Ghana, and the entire African continent in celebrating Nkrumah's 117th birthday. While acknowledging that Ghanaians may have different opinions about Nkrumah's governance and policies, Dr. Prempeh argued that such disagreements should not undermine the recognition of Nkrumah's historical contributions to Ghana.

He stressed that Nkrumah's vision was expansive and Pan-African, and that his legacy should be celebrated within the broader context of African liberation and development. Dr. Prempeh called for Ghanaians to honor Nkrumah's foundational role in shaping the nation and renew their commitment to selfless service, patriotism, national unity, and developmental progress.

The NkrumahFest's invitation to the NPP's leading member, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, was seen as a demonstration of the event's inclusive and nationalistic nature, rather than a partisan political agenda.
